ANVESHAN 2012    SEPIA TO COLOUR


SEVEN SAARC NATIONS 
&
SEVEN CITIES OF INDIA 
COME TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE ANVESHAN'S THIRD YEAR


With this year’s theme, ‘Sepia to Colour’, ANVESHAN 2012 calls upon students to document change, as they understand it.



With ITIHAAS children develop the knack to pick the best from the past and weave it into the future they are steadily building for themselves.

Change may not necessarily be tangible. Participants talk about the changing course of a tradition, a profession or a way of life, incorporating histories specific to an individual, community or region through their projects.


There are 4 categories (detailed in the Participation Guidelines)

i)                   Cheshta  (Classes III, IV & V) – Out of my window: The changes we see
ii)                 Utsaah    (Classes VI & VII) – Leisure time: The changes we see
iii)               Jumbish (Classes VIII & IX) – Professions: The changes we see
iv)               Udgaar   (Classes X & XI) – Landscapes: The changes we see

                                                                                                                      
This year, Anveshan brings together the seven cities of Delhi, seven cities across India and the seven SAARC countries, as they throw light on the kaleidoscopic changes that heritage in these regions has undergone.

The other cities apart from Delhi where Anveshan 2012 goes are Gwalior, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Dehradun-Mussoorie. ITIHAAS will organize regional finals in each of these six cities.


Delhi will host the Grand Finale in mid-October, where all the winners in the category ‘Udgaar’ (senior-most) from the six cities will be invited.  At this event, the India-SAARC winners for each category will be declared.

CELEBRATING
WORLD HERITAGE DAY 2012
With ASI and ITIHAAS

An inclusive programme for children with Disabilities.

Purana Quila, New Delhi


To take our commitment to Heritage Education forward, ITIHAAS organized a special study tour for 500 children with disability on the World Heritage Day, 2012. This was the first ever such visit of the Purana Quila organized by The Archaeological Survey of India and ITIHAAS.




ITIHAAS, an educational trust active in the area of heritage education and working with school students since 2004, conducted a study tour of the Purana Quila for children with special needs. This was the first such Heritage Education programme in the country which reached out to the Hearing impaired, those with Visual impairment, autistic children as well as those with special needs. Nine students from Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri participated as ITIHAAS volunteers and helped in group movement and activities. The study tour brought alive the dead past for these children by making them active participants in taking our heritage forward.

 The program began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by senior ASI officials, Dr. Gautam Sengupta, Director-General (ASI), Mr. Mohammed K.K., Regional Director (North Zone), Dr. D.N. Dimri, Superintending Archaeologist (Delhi Circle) and Ms Smita Vats (Founder-Director, ITIHAAS). Address by the guests was followed by a song, composed and sung by one of the ASI officials from Mysore.


 The event ended with the children getting certificates of appreciation from the ASI, study material and worksheets by ITIHAAS and refreshments. The children enjoyed the programme thoroughly and it was equally appreciated by their teachers, guardians and facilitators.
