‘Sepia to Colour’

Every year, ITIHAAS organizes ANVESHAN – The ITIHAAS ‘Young Writers’ Forum’, where students document their local traditions and heritage. This time the theme was ‘Sepia to Colour’. Students from over 250 schools across the country as well as outside India submitted their projects. Shortlisted teams and regional winning teams attended the finals held at the Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi on 11th October 2012.

Anveshan is the occasion when ITIHAAS takes a break from telling stories and waits for our young learners – to narrate those that define their existence and reconnect them to their roots. All students showcased their energies, creativity, love for their heritage and eagerness to protect it. 

Mr. Vikram Doraiswami, Joint Secretary SAARC marked his presence as the Guest of Honour and felicitated the Regional winners and Delhi winners. The winners from Delhi were as follows:

                                    Venketeshwar Global School- Rohini & Modern Academy- Indirapuram

                                    Delhi Public School- Gurgaon & DAV Public School- Vasant Kunj

Udgaar           Cambridge School- Indirapuram & Delhi Public School – Rohini

                                    Modern Vidya Niketan – Faridabad & Venkateshwar International School- Dwarka

Regional Winners were: St. Joseph’s Convent, Bhopal and Zydus School of Excellence – Ahmedabad in category Cheshta; Tagore Public School- Jaipur and Zydus School of Excellence – Ahmedabad in category Utsaah; PSBB Learning Academy- Bangalore and campion School- Bhopal for category Jumbish and Indus World School, Mandi and St. Joseph’s Convent, Bhopal for category Udgaar. Amongst the entries from Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Lahore College of Art and Science (Lahore) won in the international category.  

Our esteemed judges Feisal Alkazi, Varsha Das and Anupa Lal admitted that it was most challenging to compare all the work done as each project had its unique masterstrokes.

“All the projects that we have received describe the journey of each learner who was involved in the project. We acknowledge sincere efforts put in by students, parents and mentors which is far superior to work done with professional involvement” said Shivani, Director ITIHAAS Resource Centre.     

The audience also participated in the event by preparing a song. ITIHAAS team put up a performance which was a narration of shifting of Mughal capital and a conversation between Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusro, with language being of essence.

“We want children to know their heritage and past which resides in diverse people and places. They should not remain tourists in their own city. Young Writers’ Forum is an attempt to give our learners a chance to find out the stories and the past of their city and people. We are glad to see their curiosity to learn about their past” said Smita Vats, Founder Director, ITIHAAS.  

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks to the Ministry of Culture, the ASI, embassies of Pakistan, Bhutan and Sri Lanka and Mentors for their enthusiastic support.

ANVESHAN promises to be back next year with an equally exciting theme!!
